The good news is that though air rivet nut guns generally provide more power, quality cordless nutsert guns these days offer fast installation speed and large setting capacity as well. If you are working in a factory or in one location, an air rivet nut gun could offer a faster solution for high volume users. An extra battery is recommended for volume installations. If you are working on a job site without ready access to a compressed air supply, a battery operated tool would be ideal. The choice between these two depends on the location you plan to work in. Whats better, battery rivnut gun or air rivet nut gun? If you plan to use the tool every day and will go through hundreds of rivet nuts, then a power tool is worth the investment. If it is a one-off project and you are looking at less than 100 rivet nuts in total, perhaps a hand tool is sufficient. It depends on the volume of rivet nuts you plan to install. When choosing a rivet nut gun, the first thing to consider is whether you need a power tool or a hand/manual tool. Should I use a power rivet nut gun or manual rivet nut gun? Depending on how the setting power is generated, rivnut tools can be categorised as manual rivet nut tools, battery or cordless rivnut guns and air nutsert guns. Most rivet nuts need to be installed by using a rivnut tool. They feature faster and easier assembly at reduced costs, so they are commonly used in industries and applications including aerospace and agricultural equipment, medical technology, construction, automotive industry, electronic appliances, furniture assembly, HVAC, boat building, playground equipment and more. Rivet nuts are available in various sizes as well as body and flange shapes. They can be installed into materials such as metal, plastic, carbon fibre, wood and more, where conventional hot welding is impractical. Rivet nuts come in different materials, such as steel, aluminium, stainless steel, brass and rubber. Setting Effort - Setting Effort is the tensile force necessary to cause the riveting force to assemble the insert nut, this is measured in newtons.Rivet nuts, also known as rivnuts, nutserts, blind rivet nuts, or threaded inserts, are one-piece internally thread inserts that can be installed in sheet metal and composite materials from one side to create a permanent and reusable thread.Torque Test - The torque is the strength which is used to tighten the screw in order to secure the attachment of parts without causing breakage, this is measured in newton meters. Will not deform or cause discolouration of the materialĪll our rivet nuts are tested as advised in the table and shown in the below diagram the following features are checked for quality & performance purposes. Can be set from one side, Where the rear of the material and the inside of the object are inaccessible.Blind rivet nuts have the same properties as a tapper thread in full material, Because of the strong flush flange after deformation of the rivet nuts.Part-on Stock a range of full hexagon rivet nuts M6 Steel Full Hex Flat Head Open POP Rivet Nut ![]()

Each level got a goal to reach, but getting there is the tricky bit. The player needs to clear the way by rearranging platforms, switching portals and navigating obstetrical courses. If you’d like to see more about the build process, I put together a time lapse video below.Once upon a time, there were castles everywhere. ![]() There are two techniques that are particularly worth mentioning the brilliant construction for the wooden “A” on either side of the house, and the stylish use of shield tiles for the roof. Not a big deal, but it would probably be difficult for kids to follow. On the other hand, the instructions frequently had lots of pieces in one step and sometimes the yellow lines meant to highlight new pieces were visually confusing. It’s a large set, and took several hours to put together, but except for the tree there’s not much dull repetition. The build process for this set was enjoyable. I also have to mention the tree it’s a bit spindly and doesn’t look very organic. A husky hardly seems the right animal for a medieval blacksmith. There just seems to be way too much of it, and besides that, sand green and blue isn’t a great color combination.Īnother small gripe of mine is the dog. ![]() I’m not sure why knights are in wagon anyways, it makes it look like they just came off a farm, but on top of that this wagon is blocky and looks unrealistic.īesides the wagon, I’m also not a huge fan of the moss on the roof. ![]() While I’m at it, I’ll complain about the wagon. Although it only has one real function (the light brick), this set has so much space for kids to interact with and create stories for.įour Bricks Tall took the Medieval Blacksmith on a forest trail for a beautiful picture and inspired me to get some outdoor shots as well. My little brother and a friend of his had loads of fun exploring this set while I was supervising carefully and trying to visualize what I would have done differently if it were my own creation. The Medieval Blacksmith is not small – it dwarfed this little half-timber house I happened to have on my desk at the same time. Pushing in the bellows on the right of the forge triggers a light brick and simulates a fire in the chimney. There’s only one function in this set (besides opening doors and windows and simple things like that), but it’s a very fun one. I have to call out the bearskin rug in the attic especially. The detail doesn’t stop with the outside either there are three fully-furnished interiors. It’s also surprisingly sturdy, and although the carrying points are limited since you have to be careful not to lift the second story off by mistake, it’s easy to transport once you find a good spot to hold it. The Medieval Blacksmith is impressively ready for 360 viewing. Oh, it is from Ninjago! What do you know… Maybe he is coming to the blacksmith to get the right side fixed. The older knight’s shoulder armor doesn’t look very medieval – in fact, it looks like it’s from Ninjago. The set brings back the Black Falcon knights two of them are coming to buy armor or get repairs. There are some definite similarities like the half-timber style second story and the roof with an angle in the middle, but the LEGO designers were able to make the set brighter and less cluttered – fortunately without destroying its realistic look! Medieval lovers rejoice – the #21325 LEGO Ideas Medieval Blacksmith set is a slice of medieval life brought to the bricks with loads of realistic detail! This blacksmith’s workshop was originally designed by LEGO fan Clemens Fiedler, but the final product has undergone a lot of revision. ![]() ![]() Now, the funny thing is, that this can also be applied to tracks from Google Maps’ KML files. If this is still acceptable, you can profit from the greater accuracy of your route. For example, using ‘error=0.05k’ (50 m), gives me 109 route waypoints. It speaks for itself, that a higher value for ‘error’ will give you less waypoints, and a lower value will give you more. My guess is, that most routing engines will calculate identical routes, regardless of your routing parameters, like shortest/quickest route. I think that this gives us a route, that has enough waypoints not to leave much room for interpretation by the routing engine of a GPS device. In orange is the original track in green is the resulting route, with dots on the route waypoints. Gpsbabel -i gpx -o gpx -f track.gpx -x transform, rte=trk -x nuketypes, waypoints, tracks -x simplify,error=0.1k -F route.gpxīy specifying a maximum error of 0.1k (0.1 km, or 100 m), our original track file, containing a track of 62.84 km in 2641 trackpoints, is converted in to a route file, containing 73 route waypoints. That means that the nuber of waypoints can be higher on more complex pieces of our route, and lower on the long stretches. It allows us (and again, I quote) to specify the maximum allowable error that may be introduced by removing a single point. Simplify will let you specify a maximum number of waypoints in a route, but we will use another feature: maximum error. The Simplify filter is used to simplify routes and tracks for use with formats that limit the number of points they can contain or just to reduce the complexity of a route.Īnd that is exactly what we need. ![]() The invocation is similar to the one in my previous post, but instead of using waypoints, we convert a track into a route, and we add a filter: simplify. We will use GPSBabel to do the conversion. So, now I have a GPX, containing the exact track that I want turned into a route. Maybe later I will post something on using Viking, but that’s besides the scope of this post. Stuff like that is easily corrected with Viking, a nice GPS/track/waypoint editor, that runs on Linux (POSIX) and Windows, and is available under the GPL v2 license. I don’t know about you, but in my case, a track always contains some stuff that I don’t want to show up in the end result: mistakes that I made during my ride, like entering dead-end streets, or those extra meters that you make, looking for a place to park for a coffee break. Now, I would like to create a route out of this track, that I can share with others. For example, a drive of about 60 km that I took a few weeks back, gave me a track consisting of over 2600 trackpoints. Typically, such a track contains many trackpoints. Suppose you have a GPX file, containing a track. ![]() This post is about something else, namely how to convert a GPS track (that you created by driving, downloaded somewhere, etc.) into a route, with the same criteria as last time. The main problem that I was trying to solve, is how to create a “real” route that my Zümo will understand, built out of a minimal amount of route waypoints (that show up as such on the Zümo when navigating), rather than possibly thousands of trackpoints, that are hard to process for the device and don’t give you as much navigation flexibility. Last week, I blogged about creating routes for a Garmin Zümo, using Google Maps and GPSBabel. Categories: GPS and mapping, Motor, Nerd Stuff ![]() ![]() ![]() Hackaday Podcast 230: Space Science, Superconductors, Supercaps, And Central Air No comments I do need to work out how to create a nice OLED display and means of increasing / decreasing the temperature, as well as starting/stopping the pumps. The halogen light will be replaced by an RGB ring light (WS2812) also triggered by the ESP8266 on a spare Digital out pin. I’ve ordered a 4CH opto isolated relay board to enable me to control the Pump, Heater, Blower and Halogen light. I didn’t even need the 4.7K resistor as mentioned in all the online articles about the probe, so that was also a win. It had 4 wires coming out, but only used 3, the Red (3.3V), Black (GND) and Orange (Data). Today, i finally got around to getting under the spa again and determined that the temperature probe inside the pump is a DS18x20 probe, which is great as that means that TASMOTA can talk with it natively. I desoldered the contactor (heavy duty relays) from the Davey board, and currently triggering one to start the pump with an 8266 and 12V relay as a proof of concept, and has been running this way for about 6 months in a watertight enclosure for the modded bits. I’ve determined that the pump works fine with some hacker testing. Ants and other insects decided to short the bits out, and consequently killed the brain and not worth replacing the thing due to the ‘luxury tax’ added to anything pool/spa related! Sounds like a collaboration effort needed! I’m in the process of replacing the logic board in my Davey spa pump. We do not need remote control, it just has to work. That disturbed my father sleeping in a near room. *) the loud “clonk” when it pulled in and sometimes humming from the coil. And even if it would burn out now, it had a 20yr lifetime. So, maybe 2000 or 3000 switching cycles is not much for a relay, but it is sufficient. If there is no cleaning work to do, the pump is only switched one cycle per day by a timer. It makes small sparks at the contacts, but is switching every day in summer since 20yrs. value you get at start up.Ībout 20yr ago I changed the big noisy (*) contactor for the 400V/3 phase 1kW pool pump to a 4 pole relay similar to this one: because of the noise it made. A little configuration into Home Automation rounds out the project. ![]() However, the real value to the video is the easy way to interface to the existing controller. does a nice job of explaining some basic concepts like using opto-isolators. The controller makes it available, but it isn’t simple to read, so the project just reads the raw sensor voltage from the existing thermistor and computes the temperature. ![]() Another sensor reads the water temperature. Using the Arduino pulse input function makes it easy to sense if the LED is on, off, or blinking. It isn’t going to let you monitor pump currents or anything exotic, but it is a simple place to gain access. The LED reacts differently depending on the pool’s current mode, so connecting there not only gives you control but also allows you to provide some limited status. The remote has a few buttons and LED for status. The electrical connections for these aren’t quite standard, but they are all very similar, so you have a good chance of reproducing this for your setup assuming you have a connection for one of these wired remotes. The project relies on the connection for a wired “spa-side remote” that most modern pool systems support. However, it isn’t as specialized as you might think. Naturally, the instructions are a bit specific to the Pentair system he has. You can see the video description of the project below. For $20, added MQTT control and monitoring to his pool using an ESP8266. In 3 years, the transmitter had burned out ($300 to replace) and he decided he had enough. It wasn’t even WiFi, just a simple RF remote. If your pool isn’t new enough to do that already, you can get a range of add-on accessories. You can even get them that connect to your home automation system. Now you have digital controllers and spa jets and heaters. It used to be you had a pump and if you were lucky it had a mechanical timer switch on it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Juicebox Offers Get Updated Every 1-2 Days.ĭon't Miss Out!
